Admission & Orientation

ADMISSION

Thank you for your interest in Sunshine House. We enroll children between the ages of 2 1/2 to 6 years of age. Children must be at least 2 1/2 years old to begin school at Sunshine House.

Prospective parents are asked to schedule a visit to the school before submitting an application in order to help determine if we are a good fit for their child. We begin visits for prospective children in October and schedule the visits between 10:30-11:00. An additional visit with the Administrative Director is the next step in the application process. This meeting provides an opportunity for parents to ask questions about the program and to discuss any specific needs of the child. After submitting the non-refundable application fee of $95, your child’s name will be added to the prospective new student list within their age group.

Current families are contacted about enrollment in January. Children currently enrolled and siblings of returning students are given priority for spaces available. Beginning in late February, new families are notified if there is space for their child. Once a space is accepted, families will have one week to submit the non-refundable enrollment fee equivalent to one month’s tuition.

We welcome children from all backgrounds. We strive to balance the classroom by age when selecting new students and do consider if children are developmentally ready to be in a self-directed learning environment. One sign of readiness that we consider is the ability to use the restroom fairly independently. When admitting children, we consider the needs of the class as a whole. Children with special needs will be considered on an individual basis. We will admit children that are exceptional learners when we can provide a successful environment for the child and meet the needs of all of our students.

ORIENTATION

All new students are invited to attend an orientation session prior to the beginning of the school year. This is a wonderful time for staff, parents and new children to become better acquainted before the fall session begins.
